Squirrel Removal with a Live Trap
Customers who hear squirrels in their attics, walls, and soffits often have a very good idea of how the squirrels are getting into their structures. Here is a nice photo of a squirrel entry hole right by an electric service. The hole for the service conduit was enlarged by the squirrels and it made a nice nesting spot.
This type of squirrel entry point is pretty visible, but getting a live trap at the door takes a little skill and the right equipment.
The squirrels could be captured on the roof or ground, but a trap right at their front door guarantees a solution.
Squirrel Removal with a Live Trap with One Way Doors
For this squirrel removal, our tool of choice is a one-way-door trap. It is placed over the entrance to the hole. The squirrels inside the soffit exit their hole and go right into the trap. It also provides a temporary blocking off (exclusion) of the hole, so no other squirrels can go in. We attempt to time placement with the squirrels being at home. Other live traps are placed, in addition, to capture any squirrels out of the nest when the trap is placed.
In this instance, within five minutes of the trap being put in place, this squirrel decided it was time to leave and was promptly captured.
This picture also illustrates how the trap is placed. The trap is mounted securely by the hole. This can be done in a number of ways only limited to the installer’s ingenuity as each set-up is unique. In this case, Ryan used a strip of wire to support the middle of the trap. The area around the trap entrance and the squirrel hole was encased by wire, giving the squirrel only one option.
