How Do I know if there is a squirrel in my house?
If you are hearing noises in your attic and wall and you often see squirrels on your roof, you could very likely have squirrels accessing your home.
Here are some of the things we would look for during an inspection in case you were looking to do it yourself. (A ladder is very useful for this)
- Look at your fascia boards. The fascia is what your gutters are attached to. Look for holes similar to what these pictures show. Fascia is a popular squirrel access because the gutter provides a stable work platform for the squirrel to chew through.
- Also look for chew marks on aluminum or metal trim. Squirrels love the way metal feels on their teeth.
- If you can, look inside the holes to see if the squirrels are chewing on the wood inside. If you have lots of squirrels going in and out of your home on a regular basis, the wood inside the structure may have rub marks. Usually the wood rubbings will be lighter in appearance, and may look polished.
- Lastly, look for holes where angles on your roof are or where two different materials (aluminum and wood) meet. These are spots often exploited by squirrels

If you are seeing any of these signs, you have squirrels entering your home’s attic or walls. The next action would be designing a removal plan.
