Raccoon Triggers Roof Work
There once was a raccoon that wanted into an attic very badly…
So it tore shingles off the roof in a bunch of places until it was finally able to get inside!
Dang raccoon!
Now there is a hole in the roof and shingle damage in many places.
Would it be better to reshingle the whole roof now? We suspect.
At minumim, the homeowner and the insurance agent should talk about all the damage this raccoon created.
Our job is to remove the offender and advise the homeowner on the damage.
Take a look:
Raccoon Damage
As you saw in this video, raccoons are good at tearing and pulling things.
Unlike squirrels that chew holes through things, raccoons usually pull from loose edges.
This raccoon tried and tried until it eventually found a spot weak enough to exploit.
If anything, the video shows the raccoon’s determination.
Here are some more pictures highlighting raccoon damage.
As the pictures show, raccoons like to pick on roofs. When they do, water can then continue the damage.
How Do Raccoons Get In?
Raccoons often exploit structural weaknesses in order to enter attics.
But, sometimes they just decide, for some reason, to get into an attic even if they have to do a lot of damage to get in.
Here, shingles and roof decking were both removed by a determined raccoon.
Here is another example of shingle damage courtesy of a raccoon.
Not many animals can do this sort of damage to a roof.
Sure, squirrels chew, but raccoons have such strong and dexterous paws that they rank as most destructive.
Video of Raccoon Damage
Last fall, Ryan recently found some raccoon destruction that wasn’t just an exploitation of some weakness.
Here is the video which shows the destruction.
