Animal Removal Hits Home

Sometimes animal removal operators even have their own nuisance animal removal issues.

Mice are tiny but can wreak great havoc on our lives.

I recently decided to put my convertible away for the winter, and a mouse almost caused permanent damage to the engine of my car. I was going to take the car for one last drive before putting it away for winter storage. As I pulled away from my driveway the car began to smoke, smell, run terrible and then it shut down. After opening the hood and examining the engine I discovered an animal had turned the car’s intake system into a food storage facility. It appeared a mouse had filled the car’s air filter with corn, and after starting the engine the corn was sucked into the engine. It took me
several hours taking apart various engine components, cleaning, and performing tests before I was able to safely run the engine again. If I were not experienced in auto mechanics, the cost to have the car towed and repaired by a professional would have been around $800-$900 dollars.

The lesson I learned from all of this is not to store animal feed(like bird seed, dog food, or corn for a pellet stove) near a vehicle, because it may end up in that car’s engine.
