Decisions with Nuisance Animals
You call a nuisance animal removal company for squirrel or raccoon removal.
The animals have entered your house through a hole in the exterior and you just want them gone.
The animal remover comes over and says the animals can be removed(phew!), BUT…
- the roof needs replaced
- the fascia needs replaced
- the screens need replaced
- there is a water problem that needs addressed
- the gutters are a mess
- the soffit is ruined
- trees need trimmed
- gaps need filled
- the vents are bad
Need we go on?
Many times in the course of dealing with a nuisance animal we find trouble spots with a home that need repair. Sometimes they are a result of the animal problem and sometimes they are the root cause of the animal problem.
When we find these issues, we are then in the unenviable position of delivering this “But” message to the homeowner who just wants the animal removed.
No one wants to hear there is more work to be done than just trapping a few nuisance animals.
But, in order to achieve a long term solution, repairs/modifications of some kind often go hand-in-hand with nuisance animal removal.
A reputable animal removal company should provide you with the knowledge of what needs done in order to achieve a long term solution. (Even if it’s not what you wanted to hear.)
A Bigger Issue Than Raccoons
An example of a job where more needs done than just removing raccoons is given in our first video.
Ryan was called out to help solve a raccoon problem and here is what he found.
As you can see, trapping a few raccoons might be a short term solution to stop the noises of raccoons walking around the attic. But, this “Band-Aid Fix” won’t address the root cause of the raccoon problem.
We can surely set traps and catch raccoons here, but we also have to be honest and let the homeowner know that catching raccoons without making repairs is probably not going to fix the problem for long.
Speaking of not fixing the problem for long brings us to our second video.
At this particular property, Ryan went out for raccoons in the attic just a few months ago. He found out that the raccoons were able to access the roof because the roof is damaged and needs a lot of work. He did remove raccoons and make a temporary patch. But, he delivered the news that the roof was in bad shape and would need a lot of attention in order to keep raccoons out for good.
A few months later, the roof continues to be an issue and the raccoons are back.
