Bat Removal Season Has Arrived in Northeast Ohio

Why We Wait

Most of Ohio’s attic colonies are maternity colonies. During late spring and much of the summer, mother bats give birth and raise flightless pups.

If the adults are excluded too early, the young bats are left behind inside the structure where they cannot survive.

Ohio’s regulations are designed to prevent this situation while protecting our native bat populations, which play an important role in controlling mosquitoes and other insects. Ohio law also regulates when and how licensed wildlife control operators may perform bat exclusions.

Now that the primary exclusion season has begun, those young bats are capable of flying alongside the adults. That means we can safely perform a complete exclusion that removes the colony without trapping bats inside your home.

Bat Removal Is More Than Just Letting Bats Out

Many people assume bat removal simply involves installing a one-way door. That process is shown in this video:

In reality, successful bat removal begins with a detailed inspection of the entire home.

Bats only need a gap of about 3/8 of an inch to enter a structure. We inspect roof lines, fascia boards, soffit intersections, ridge vents, construction gaps, flashing, chimney areas, dormers, and other common entry points. While one opening may serve as the primary exit, several smaller openings often exist elsewhere on the home.

Our goal is to identify every potential access point before beginning the exclusion.

Once the inspection is complete, we seal all secondary openings using durable repair materials that blend with the home whenever possible. We then install professional one-way exclusion devices over the active entry points. These devices allow the bats to leave naturally each evening but prevent them from returning.

After we’ve confirmed the colony has completely exited, we remove the exclusion devices and permanently seal the final openings.

The result is a home that is bat-free and professionally protected against future infestations.
