Bats Find Gaps
As Halloween quickly approaches, there are lots of images of bats to be seen!
But by late October, Frontline Animal Removal is starting to get “batted out” as Ryan has been busy evicting bats and bat proofing these last two months.
For the professional bat-proofer/bat remover, bats are never spooky and no longer novel come Halloween.
In fact, all the caulking and metal bending that makes up the bulk of bat proofing becomes as repetitious as reaching into your kid’s trick or treat bag and pulling out another mini Snicker’s bite!
But for those who wonder where these bats live in people’s homes, this post is for you.
Here are three example of spots where bats were found and subsequently evicted from.
As you’ll be able to see, the bats chose these spots because they were able to find gaps that provided safe roosting.
After removing them, the goal of bat proofing is to seal off these areas so bats can no longer use the areas as roosting spots.
These videos show how small gaps and good cover are attractive to these Halloween superstars.
Construction Gaps Draw Bats
This first video shows how bats found a gap between some siding and some brick. They were able to crawl behind the edge of the bricks and found the protection and temperatures they desired.
As you can see, the bats didn’t force their way in. They simply found an opportunity and exploited it.
The trick to keeping this structure bat free is to remove these roosting spots by modifying what is there.
After the new corner trim piece was installed, all of the bats were able to get out but could never get back in.
Bats Love Log Cabins
Our second example shows a favorite spot of bats: a log cabin.
Log cabins attract bats because their design and materials provide multiple spots to roost which provide great cover.
The video is a little longer than normal but there are plenty of bats removed in the last half of the video. Stick with it.
Bat proofing a log cabin consists of finding the gaps bats use and sealing it. This is often accomplished with backing material and caulk. When the gaps are too large, trim is installed.
Bats Behind Shutters
This last video shows some bats that found a shutter with a gap behind it. It exemplifies how bats can take advantage of innocuous gaps most of have in some shape or form on our structures.
Some caulking behind the shutter would have prevented this bat issue, but installer don’t often consider bats.

Bats happen! (and not just at Halloween)
But, unlike a lot of other nuisance animal species, bats don’t force their way in. Bats happen because they find gaps in our structures and take advantage. Bat proofing finds these gaps and closes them.
When they do happen, Frontline Animal Removal can get them out and keep them out.
