Do Ultrasonic & Strobe Repellant Devices Work?

At a recent job, Ryan removed some raccoons that were getting into a house.  This isn’t surprising as it is what Frontline Animal Removal does on a daily basis.

The interesting part of this job was that he removed the raccoons while supposed raccoon repelling devices were in operation.  As you watch the video below, you’ll see that these devices did not stop the raccoon from using the structure.  Like Ryan, the raccoons probably found the devices annoying.  But since they were already established there, it didn’t annoy them enough to stop using the structure.  The way we can assure these specific raccoons stop living in this building is to capture them and take them away.  Repelling is great in theory.  Trapping is results-based.

Watch the video here to see which method of getting raccoons out this house worked.

Trapping Raccoons is Effective

We are in agreement that just having the nuisance animals go away is the easiest and preferred outcome.  But, once animals have have a safe and secure spot to nest, they rarely give it up easily.  Noise and strobes may indeed deter some animal activity but, time after time, we find that these “remedies” are ineffective after the fact.

We haven’t done a lot of Myth Buster / Consumer Reports testing on all the repellant products out there. But, for what its worth, we don’t believe a lot of the commercially available or home-remedy nuisance wild animal repellents work too well as evidenced in the video above.

Of course, as a nuisance wild animal control company that removes and prevents animals, we are biased.

But, we know that a combination of removing (trapping) and excluding (repairs) is HIGHLY effective at keeping nuisance wild animals under control.  And, the results are tangible.

Remember, for us, we are talking about bats, groundhogs, raccoons, squirrels, opossums, moles and skunks primarily.

Reviews of Nuisance Animal Repellents

We strongly encourage potential animal repellant consumers to thoroughly check out reviews on products.  If you dig deeply into these products you’ll generally find just as many one star reviews as five star.   To us, those results are too inconclusive to spend your money on.  Go with something that works, like animal removal.

Since Amazon offers a large sample size of actual consumers of the products, we used its reviews.  We challenge you to go to Amazon and search for ‘animal repellent’, too.

A lot of the different products used for a variety of animals will show up.  (There sure are a lot of animal repellents out there!)  Once all those products were in one place, we started looking at the reviews and weren’t surprised by what we found.

Here is a composite picture showing reviews of the three most reviewed (sample size matters!) general animal repellents at the time of this post writing.

As you can see, for these widely reviewed products, the results are not all that encouraging!

It seems like you’re either going to love the product or hate the product.  It’s like rolling the dice.

Our goal is not to give these products a bad name (no names attached to the reviews!) : it is only to give a buyer-beware warning.

We encourage you to check out the Amazon reviews yourself.  You’ll be able to put the above results with a product name.

Ryan Discusses Animal Repellants

We have spoken with numerous customers who have tried a variety of products with less than stellar results.

We have trapped around all sort of products and home remedies.

Ryan speaks about his experiences with animal repellents in this video.

We are not convinced the myriad of products that promise to repel nuisance animals is worth the experimentation.

Frontline Animal Removal believes our tried and true methods of removal, exclusion, and prevention delivers the results homeowners want.
