Tunneling Groundhogs Trapped

The biggest trouble with groundhogs/woodchucks is their digging.  They become a nuisance for many a homeowner when they move a lot of dirt for their holes, dens, and tunnels.

This video shows a property where a family of groundhogs has taken digging to the extreme.  At this house, they have dug tunnels or holes on all 4 sides of the house!

While many groundhogs get noticed when they move some dirt, these groundhogs made this property a mess.

Take a look.

Trapping Tunneling Groundhogs

Stopping the earth moving and excavating around this house is accomplished by removing the groundhogs.

And, how is that accomplished effectively? Through trapping.

When Ryan showed up he found where their most active holes were and blocked the others by collapsing the entrances.  He then put two-door, walk-through traps at the remaining three entrances.  The mother groundhog and three young-of-the-year groundhogs were caught in short order.

Here is a picture of the style of trap we recommend for groundhog removal in most instances.

When it is opened, it creates a tunnel that the groundhog can see through and walk through.

Therefore, one of the best places to trap a groundhog is right where it goes in or out of a hole as the trap is incorporated into the entrance.

Setting the trap in place and using some extra wire to block things off gives the woodchuck only one way in or out: right through the trap.

Trapping hole entrances is so efficient because they are such well defined paths of travel.

And, if a groundhog is really using that hole, it will be captured quickly.

Setting the traps described above will catch any groundhogs coming or going from under buildings and decks too.

Other great places for traps are other well defined travel paths like right along a fence or, better yet, where a groundhog consistently crawls under a fence.
