Honeybee Removal : Swarms Versus Hives in Homes
Not all honeybee problems are the same.
Most of our calls for honeybees can be put into one of two very simple classifications:
- Bees found outside the house on a tree, bush, or fence
- Bees found living inside a house evidenced by a lot of activity around an entry point.
What is a Honeybee Swarm?
The bees found outside in a huge clump (a swarm) are a very cool phenomenon to see.
They are the result of a colony of bees splitting itself. A new queen develops and she leaves an established hive with many of the workers. This new colony of bees travels in a huge group until they find a suitable place to establish a new hive. In this way, more honeybee hives are created.
Right now, late May and June, are prime times for honeybee swarming here in Northeast Ohio.
