Raccoon Climbing Abilities: The Next Level
It comes to no one’s surprise that raccoons are great climbers.
In fact, a few months ago we noted in a blog on raccoons looking for winter homes that
Raccoons are great climbers and they seem to love exploring roofs. Trees and bushes close to a home provide easy access to a roof and provide an open invitation to raccoons. Additionally, we’ve also see raccoons getting onto roofs frequently via fences, chimneys, and downspouts.
But exactly how good of climbers are raccoons?
We offer the following video as an example.
In this short video Ryan takes us on a raccoon removal job where raccoons were getting into a soffit and then an attic space.
In order to successfully remove raccoons we have to see where the raccoons are getting into a structure and how they’re getting there.
Trapping locations and methods hinge upon this knowledge as the video shows.
Seeing evidence that raccoons were climbing the brick wall/steel door edge to get into/out of this hole in the soffit shouldn’t surprise us or you– but it still does.
And sure, they may (and probably do) sometimes go up and over the gutter and use the roof but, as the raccoon in the trap shows, the “hard” way is used too.
It might look like a tough climb for a raccoon but… it just goes to show that raccoons are better climbers than most of us give them credit for.
