Poor Workmanship Leads to Squirrel Problem
Squirrels sure don’t need any advantages from humans in order to get into an attic. So make sure they don’t get any!
Today’s post is a warning to anyone who is contemplating getting any work done (siding/roofing) around the gutter area.
And the warning is this:
Make sure that gutters are removed and the fascia behind it gets completely covered during any updates.
While this may seem elementary to most of us, leaving gutters up while fascia work is done a practice that we’ve seen too many times. And, we’ve seen these examples because they’ve led to squirrels, birds, or another unwanted animal.
Here are two short videos that show what we mean.
Squirrels Taking Advantage Videos
Here’s an older example where there was no fascia board, just open rafter tails until a soffit was added.
Why do some re-siders follow this practice?
It’s easier of course and, in all fairness, a lot of people don’t have nuisance animals in minds when working on homes.
But, if you are going to get your house re-sided, ask your contractor if they’ll be taking down the gutters or at least addressing that area where the gaps are in the video. (Feel free to show them the video if you like.)
Any reputable contractor will assure you this gap won’t exist when they’re finished.
That will be good for your house in terms of nuisance animal prevention.
