Squirrels Don’t Need Much Help Getting Into Attic : Don’t Give Them Any

Squirrels are notorious chewers.

They chew through wood, vinyl, plastic, and even aluminum in order to get into attics and soffits.

With their ability to chew into things, they sure don’t need any advantages or opportunities.

Often, though, a lack of maintenance or a misguided construction practice gives squirrels these unneeded opportunities to get into a home.

Today’s squirrel removal blog post highlights a construction practice that gives squirrels one of these unfair advantages in terms of getting into homes.

This squirrel-friendly construction practice is:

Leaving a gap between the fascia and roofline when a house is re-sided in order to avoid removing and rehanging the gutters.

Here’s a video where Ryan explains shows this type of situation.

Why do some re-siders follow this practice?  It’s easier of course and, in all fairness, a lot of people don’t have nuisance animals in minds when working on homes.

But, if you are going to get your house re-sided, ask your contractor if they’ll be taking down the gutters or at least addressing that area where the gap is in the video.  (Feel free to show them the video if you like.)  Any reputable contractor will assure you this gap won’t exist when they’re finished.

That will be good for your house in terms of nuisance animal prevention.
