A Unique Skunk Removal Story

It’s skunk mating season here in the Akron, Canton, Kent Ohio area.

Males are roaming far and wide. They’re running into pets and cars while seeking female skunks.

Because of this, the skunk pages on our web site get viewed more times now than during any part of the year as people make search engine queries like:

How do you get rid of skunk smell?

When is skunk mating season?

How do I get rid of a skunk?

Why are there so many skunks around right now?

With skunks on the brain and maybe in the nostrils, we share this week’s blog post focusing on skunk removal.

We received a skunk call that was a first for us: a skunk so tangled in a thorny rosebush that it could not get out.

It appears that a roaming male skunk got too close to a rose bush and the bush’s thorns grabbed at the skunk’s fur.  No doubt, the skunk tugged and twisted to get free and only got wrapped up more.

As you can see in the following video, Ryan does quite a bit of snipping and twisting to untangle this living skunk.

Tough luck for skunk:  there were no roses to give to the neighborhood cat and it was extremely cold this weekend.

By the time Ryan arrived, this immobilized, unsheltered skunk was feeling the effects of the cold.

Dealing with a hypothermic skunk probably made the job a bit easier for Ryan, but he still shows some guts dealing with the business end of the skunk.
