Skunk Removal | Akron, Canton, Kent

Skunks are a nuisance animal for homeowners because they stink…literally!

In fact, if skunks had a different defense mechanism, they would be more appreciated for the docile, uniquely furred creatures they are.

But, because of their malodorous spray, there aren’t a lot of people who want them to deal with them when they are in close proximity to people, a house, or pets.

In our experience, skunks freak people out.

As a nuisance animal removal company that knows skunk removal, we respect skunks but are definitely not freaked out by them.

Ryan deals with skunks often.  This familiarity has led to a respectful comfort around skunks.

Skunk Caught by Front Paw in Rat Trap

Not for Skunks!

For today’s post, we offer an unusual situation we were called to recently.

A homeowner was removing chipmunks by using rat traps staked into the ground.  The intention was not to catch a skunk.

But, a skunk was interested in the baited trap as well and put its paw into the rat trap.  The trap gripped the paw and held the skunk.  Since the trap was staked, the skunk stayed put.

The homeowner found the skunk and called us.

Ryan could have dealt with this skunk in a number of different ways.  There’s no manual for this.  Here is how he did it.

Skunk Removal | Akron, Canton, Kent

A lot of our skunk calls originate with skunks being trapped my mistake.

That’s why we advise do-it-yourselfers to consider the possibility of skunks before setting traps around your yard.

The number one tip is to cover your box trap!

By wrapping a trap with cardboard or tape or simply putting a blanket over it, you can deal better with an unintended skunk trap.  A covered skunk trap greatly reduces the chances it will spray.
