Sign of Squirrels
Insulation is supposed to be in the attic, not in the soffit.
So, when insulation is noticed in the soffit, it is usually an indication that there is an animal issue.
Squirrels, and raccoons to some extent, will often pull insulation out of attics to make nests in soffits.
When they do this, insulation can drop out of soffits or be tracked onto roofs and then be noticed.
Finding insulation where it shouldn’t be should be a tip-off that nuisance animals might be somewhere they shouldn’t be.

Squirrels or other nuisance animals in the attic bring a number of problems including noise, wire chewing, feces, and urine. Moving insulation and affecting the venting of the soffit and attic also happens.
