Squirrels in Soffit
Squirrels love to get into soffits. Once there, they often explore further and go to other parts of the home.
Today, we share a recent job where squirrels were running amok in a soffit.
All jobs are unique in some ways, but this one has some interesting elements.
We believe it’s a good story because it shows the connection between repair and trapping. Repair and Trapping are often integrated because the repair (or at least the beginnings of the repair) enables successful trapping.
Please, watch the video first. Then read on as we discuss the link between repair and trapping success.
Repair & Animal Removal Together
Chewing through the screen to get into the sun room was easy. Screens don’t stand much chance against squirrels.
And because of the design inside the screened-in porch, once squirrels were in the sunroom access to the soffit was even easier. The squirrels utilized multiple ways to get into the soffit and were using it as they pleased.
Trapping these screen-chewing squirrels effectively requires that their multiple travel paths are reduced. Trapping an opening on a screen is not effective, however, as the screen is so easily damaged. So, limiting the access to the soffit with the wooden blocks forces the squirrels to go where we want them; into the traps.
In this case, the repair/prevention step of blocking off the soffits from the screened in porch will prevent future problems should other squirrels decide to chew through the screen.
As the video showed, the repair also gives the squirrels limited places to go and forces them through the traps when they want to get out.
Repair and squirrel removal went hand-in-hand on this job.
Squirrel Repairs & Removal
A solution to a nuisance animal in a home is pretty simple in theory:
- Remove the unwanted animal
- Make a good repair
So, when animals get in, we get them out (trapping) and keep them out (repair/prevention).
A lot of nuisance animal removal companies, however, don’t do much repair work. These companies stick to trapping problem animals only.
Once these trappers leave, a separate contractor is often needed to do the repair/prevention work that needs performed for a lasting solution.
Full service nuisance animal removal professionals like Frontline Animal Removal are often able and willing to handle both parts of the job. And, in situations like the one in the video the repair really aids the trapping.
We think it makes a lot of sense to perform both aspects of the job and believe it is a real value to our clients.
