New Squirrel Entry
We’ve got a unique squirrel entry to share with you today.
At a recent squirrel job, we found a squirrel which decided it was going to go in and out of a garage by slipping under the bottom of the aluminum garage door.
That’s right, rather than chew through some wood up at the roofline, this squirrel chewed through the weather stipping at the bottom right of the door!
The squirrel stayed right at driveway/garage floor level to go in and out of this house. Then, once, in the garage, it climbed up into the rafters.
We actually found this as odd as the homeowner did. And while we always expect the unexpected when it comes to squirrels, this was a new one for us.
Trap Squirrel at Entry
Though this squirrel entry may have been unusual, it wasn’t unwelcome.
No need to get out the ladders and mount traps on the roofline. No need to climb up high and make a repair up in the air.
Just make a little funnel and set the trap right at the door’s edge: no ladder required. In fact, the hardest thing is remembering to keep the garage door shut while trapping is in progress.
Take a look.
Repairs Once Squirrels Removed
Once the squirrel is removed, the question must be asked; how did this come to be?
In this case, the garage door was not balanced and one side had a gap. The squirrel found the gap and the weather stripping that was in the way proved no match for the squirrel. That can be seen above.
Obviously, the weather stripping needs replaced after the trouble making squirrel is removed. And, the garage door needs balanced.
There are a number of causes for garage door imbalance. Often it is a frayed cable on one side that lengthens and causes the imbalance. A door may also rise on one side if the cable is not properly seated on its drum.
Occasionally, the concrete may sink giving the illusion of an unbalanced door.
When it is a cable issue, this is probably something you should contact a garage door pro about.
There are videos on YouTube which can help you balance a garage door, but for us, we’ll stick to animal removal and structural repairs.
