As noted a couple weeks ago, the middle of February into March is a prime time for skunk visibility.
That’s because skunk mating season gets underway.
We thought we’d share a recent skunk catch with you because it is so unique. It’s a mostly white skunk!
It is a wild, striped skunk and still has it’s black head and paws. There is even a little bit of black fur on the belly. But, other than that this skunk is mostly white.
Ryan has seen a lot of skunks. But as he notes in the video below, this is the first all white one.

Take a look at the skunk better in this video.

In the video, you’ll also note how comfortable Ryan is around skunks. This is something that you want in a skunk remover.
He calls his picking up the skunk his “stupid human trick”.
And while we certainly don’t advise picking up a skunk up by the tail, skunks can be handled without spraying.
Successful skunk removal often requires the remover to work in close proximity to a skunk. This is something a lot of people are not comfortable with.
But, if you live in our Stark, Summit, Portage County, OH service area and need skunk removal services, just know that we have a comfort level with skunks.
Skunk spray is to be respected for sure, but most skunks are only going to spray as a last resort.
Dealing with Skunk Spray
But what if you or your pet comes into contact with a skunk?
There are many reported methods for dealing with skunk spray; some more effective than others.
The mixture below is what we use. It is recommended far and wide in the animal control industry.
If your pet or you have been sprayed by a skunk, we recommend a good washing with the following solution:
1 Quart (32 oz.) 3% Hydrogen Peroxide
1/4 Cup Baking Soda
2 Teaspoons of Dawn dish soap
As long as the proportions are the same, you can mix as much or as little as you’d like.
Don’t believe us?!! The MythBusters took on this problem in 2004. Their tests with many different methods revealed washing with the formula above surpassed all the others out there.
