Chimney Caps & Nuisance Wild Animals

Do you have chimney caps?

In this video-heavy blog, Ryan from Frontline Animal Removal in Hartville, Ohio shares a lot about chimney caps and nuisance wild animals.

Chimney caps are musts for homeowners.  But, there are still some issues to think about even if your chimney is capped.

Chimney Cap Installation: Prevent Nuisance Animals

As the video explained, chimney caps are essential in nuisance animal prevention. One of the best ways to prevent animals from getting into chimneys and beyond is to make sure that chimney caps are in place, well-designed, and in good shape.

Frontline Animal Removal is in the business removing nuisance animals from chimneys.  But beyond that, we are also in the business of preventing animals getting into chimneys through chimney cap installation.

While we’re up on the roof and dealing with the animals, part of the overall solution is to make sure the problem doesn’t recur.  Often, a chimney cap install is the recommendation when dealing with missing or defective chimney caps.

Chimney caps come in a variety of makes and models as many chimney configurations deviate from the “normal”.  Our job is to help homeowners with caps that:

  1. Match their chimney’s design
  2. Provide a well-made product that is animal proof
  3. Work well with the aesthetic

For example, at the job in the following video we recommended a style of chimney cap that mounts to the crown rather than one that screws/clamps onto or inside the flue tile itself.  That was because one of the flues is in bad shape and would not support the more typical installation method.  Then because of a desire for a cohesive look, another cap was changed.  Now, the customer has chimney caps that are raccoon & squirrel proof, solidly installed and look good too.

Dealing with Unique Chimneys

Another way to deal with a chimney may be to plug it and not even use a cap.  This is an option if the particular chimney is question is no longer used for anything.

As you can see in the following video, that is the situation Ryan found at this raccoon-in-the-chimney job.  The raccoon was using a chimney that was no longer serving any purpose.  So rather than mount a cap on it, the better solution was to just seal the chimney.  Talk about prevention.

In other cases, the chimney configuration itself provides a challenge to animal removal and capping.  In the example below, there are two chimneys with multiple flues of various sizes, that are close together.  This is an interesting challenge for both raccoon removing and capping.

As you can see, Ryan was able to find a solution for both challenges.

Chimney Caps |  Animal Removal | Akron,Canton, Kent OH Area

In the Stark / Summit / Portage County area we have many quality chimney sweeps and chimney repair companies.  All of them provide chimney caps and chimney repair.  Some, in fact, remove animals from chimneys.

We’re not claiming to be chimney pros like them but we sure see our fair share of chimneys and can make recommendations.

We do not, however, provide re-building services, tuck pointing, new liners, new crowns etc.  Those jobs should be left to the chimney professionals.

We can definitely get animals out of chimneys and solve many capping issues.  While we’re up there, let us install a cap for you.  If we find damage that is beyond our scope, we’ll definitely let you know.
