Lots of Mole Mounds Visible Around Akron/Canton Area

Now that the snow has melted (for good?) many people are able to see fresh little piles of dirt all over their lawns.  In some yards, it almost looks like a cow has been walking around.  Many people don’t exactly know what they are- but they are the work of an excavating Eastern or Star-Nosed mole.

With the trained eye of a mole trapper, I can drive down almost any suburban road in Stark or Summit county and see those little piles of dirt all over the place.  I sometimes scare my wife with and outburst of “Moles” somewhat reminiscent of a favorite Austin Powers scene,

Spring finds the moles mounding as new excavations are being made and worms (their main diet) move towards the surface with the sogginess of the ground.
